Girls – the skilled employees of the future

April 24, 2008

From data centers to first level support: The daughters of T-Systems employees gleaned quite a bit of insight into the IT world during the eighth Girls' Day.
Girls and IT? That's a great fit. At least the nationwide Girls' Day at T-Systems inspired some enthusiasm on the part of employees' daughters for education in the area of information technology and for natural scientific and technical education. Without going over dull theories, the day concentrated on practical matters, such as having the girls visit a data center and examine the inside of a PC. And how does a digital cinema work? What happens in a sound studio? These participant questions were all answered in Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Hamburg. Also discussed were education-related issues, such as the careers of "IT Specialist for System Integration" or "IT Systems Merchant." The girls were also able to peak over the shoulders of first and second level support employees as they worked. "We never imagined what all is involved in IT," the girls stated, clearly impressed.

ICT service providers rely on experts: Both sides therefore benefit from the Europe-wide Girls' Day. "We want to enable the participating girls to get to know our technical careers in a practice-oriented atmosphere, dispel any reservations they have against these careers and take into account the importance of professional development and career," says Claudia Förster, Head of People & Expert Development and Diversity Officer at T-Systems.
