T-Systems offers a traffic information system for major cities and conurbations that delivers precise, up-to-the-minute traffic advisories.
Traffic news on the radio almost always comes too late, refers to distant towns and highways, and hardly ever provides information on inner cities. A solution developed by T-Systems and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology (IPK) based on Floating Car Data technology (FCD) is far more accurate – and useful.
This solution turns cars into congestion monitors on wheels: integrated sensors relay data such as current speed or the length of time spent immobile to the traffic control center via SMS text messages. The innovative software combines this input with data from roadside cameras and induction strips to precisely determine the traffic situation at all locations, communicating its findings to the cars by SMS text message – where the data is presented on digital maps via the in-car navigation system.
Unprecedented quality
The solution has not only proved its mettle in field trials. It was also successfully deployed in the Hanover area during the 2006 World Cup – to date, no traffic control center in Europe has enjoyed access to such an effective mix of high-quality data.
